My Prizes for "Best Event of 1996"

Best food: Walden Round, followed by the Settle Scramble (for the Fruit cake and Wensleydale cheese) and the Burley Bridge Hike for the "school dinner" – I always liked school dinners!).

Worst weather: Wensleydale Wedge. (But Ann says Settle Scramble, because she did not manage to finish before the weather turned). The Two Dales Challenge deserves a mention here. It has not been run for a couple of years, but when it was, you could guarantee it to be the one wet weekend in May.

Best views: Walden Round. (Or Ulfkil Stride, if it had been run this year).

Best Route: Over the last few years, we have eliminated all the events we dont like, so it is difficult to choose one that really stands out – perhaps the Trollers Trot or the Blubberhouses Moor.

Silliest kit-list: Blubberhouses Moor, but also awarded to any event (particularly the Great Shunner Shuffle) which has a chaotic delaying kit-check at the start instead of having a "random" one half-way round.

Worst blisters: Cleveland Classic

Best finish venue: Twin Peaks Trail, for finishing in the pub.

Worst litter: The Rombolds Stride and the Settle Scramble both featured noticeable dropped litter; and several gates were left unclosed on the SS. These two events also featured a lot of club runners but I wouldnt like to make the connection!

Best mug: Great Shunner Shuffle

Best organisation: All of the events, really. I have no serious complaints! If I was going to mention a couple of good events it would be the Trollers Trot, for always going smoothly despite a large turnout; and the Twin Peaks for managing a smooth last-minute change of finish venue, together with pub food for 110 people.

Least boggy: the Bog Dodgers Way. Perhaps it should be renamed the Global Warming Way?

Most routes: Spring in Lakeland featured three routes and even more route segments, all very well co-ordinated.

Most interesting concept: The Wheeldale Tandem. I would also mention the January Jolly Walks but I didnt do that event. The idea of returning to the finish twice and having to set out again was just too awful to contemplate.
